What are the dimensions of your handmade boxes?

Our handmade wooden boxes are large enough to hold ten (10) greeting cards and envelopes with a little room to spare.

Dimension wise, they are approximately, 8-5/8 (length) by 6-3/4 (width) by 2-17/16 (height) in inches.

What kind of wood is used to make your custom boxes?

We use elm to make our boxes. We may offer these boxes in walnut at a later date. Market demand will be the key here.

These boxes are not thrown together with a prayer: They are sturdy, well made boxes. That said, it takes time to machine the wood for each box, then it must be assembled and finished. So, there is an investment of time to fabricate these boxes.

Given proper care, they should last many years.

Do these boxes have to be ordered in advance?

We maintain a small stock and when that supply is depleted, we get to work and make more boxes. Experience has taught us that Holiday's are the 'high demand' times for these boxes. We have found that folks like to give these boxes along with our greeting cards as gifts. We like that idea very much.

So, to be on the safe side, we would suggest that you do give us some advance notice if you intend to purchase a box or two. This will be especially true around Christmas because our elves can only do so much. Grin.

How do you finish your boxes?

Very good question.

We've worked wood for a few years and our experience has taught us that many of the fancy 'finishing' oils that some folks use soon begin emitting a sour smell. This is especially true, if it is applied to an enclosed area like a drawer or box. Therefore, we only use shellac which never ever emits any irritating odor. Shellac is food safe as well. We are not suggesting that you eat our boxes (grin), but shellac is as safe as it gets in this toxic world of ours.

We mix our own shellac from shellac flakes. Briefly, shellac is a natural resin secreted by insects, called 'lac' bugs. These critter's attach themselves to certain trees in Northern India. This resin must be scraped from the twigs and branches of these trees and then purified of all the minute debris accumulated in the process. Approximately, 1.5 million lac bugs must be harvested to make 1 pound of shellac flakes.

And we think we work hard?

How much are your boxes?

We sell our boxes for $29 with the purchase of a box of our greeting cards.

The box will then be wrapped, just as you see in the background image on this page.

We will also enclose a separate card of your choice. This card is for you to enclose with your gift. So, to summarize:

• Choose the card that you want us to fill your gift box with;
• Choose the extra card that you want to enclose with your gift;
• We will decoratively wrap your gift box, pack it carefully, enclose your extra card and envelope, and;
• Ship it off to you

Simple.

Do you sell your boxes separately?

We would prefer not to start a box business from our greeting cards website. We will sell boxes separately, but the price will be $49 plus s/h without the cards.

But, you can drop us an email with your thoughts and we will mull it over. Who knows? We're always willing to listen.

And now for a word from our sponsor ...

Some news and info. We actually do have another website that promotes our custom walnut jewelry boxes. However, this website will soon be completely re-done and incorporated into our main website which will promote our photography, greeting cards, and our wood working crafts all from one location.
